This economy is simply destroying me! I’m so stressed out!
In today’s world of economic depression (especially in the US) millions are feeling stranded by the wayside as a result of job cuts (employers are calling it undersizing and right-sizing) , salary cuts (employers are calling it worthiness correction) and even demotions (employers are calling it workforce optimization) in the workplace. The woes of the real estate market and the upward spiralling oil and gas prices are simply adding fuel to the fire that has already been lit.As humans, these are stressful situations without a doubt - especially if you have a family to feed and nuture. It is not possible to turn away from such situations, since we feel the pressure every moment of our life.
So what does a common person do? For starters, he or she will immerse in the gloom of stress and yield his or her mind to the mercy of the demons of negative thoughts. The anxiety develops into depression and depression matures into phobias and panic attacks and the person sinks lower and lower into the dungeons of darkness.
Let me ask you - who’s winning in this? Definitely not the individual who chooses to adopt such a “beat-me-up” attitude towards life. Worrying does not help solve and problem. Anxiety is not going to solve the problem. Depression will only help aggravate your anxiety and impose more stress on you.
Turn around and take contol. When a river finds a rock in its path, it finds a way around it. That what your life should be like. Find detours for yourself. What those detours may be are pretty subjective and there is no thumbrule or one size that fits all.
So you lost a job? Well, find another one. Have you assessed your skills? Do you know what your strengths are? Can you do something different in life? Is the loss a blessing in disguise? What is that blessing?
Gas prices are too high for you? Well, how many cars do you have? Can you sell one off that is more of a luxury than a need? Can you trade your’s in and get a hybrid vehicle? Can you walk or take your bicycle to the grocery store rather than the easy way out when the store is just a few minutes away?
So the point I am trying to get across is that you must be ready to take action to correct the situation in life instead of yielding yourself to fate when you are up against stressful situations. We have been gifted with rationality, so utilize that power to reason for yourself and find your way. Refrain from any counter-productive thoughts and actions -they just make matters worse.
